On Sunday Morning, October 17th at approx. 5:45am, The Mattydale Fire Department was activated to respond as RIT to a reported fire in North Syracuse.
Initally dispatched as a car vs. building MVC, police units arrived to find the vehicle into the building and on fire, with the fire spreading quickly into a church annex on the property. The assignment was quickly upgraded adding Moyers Corners and Mattydale to the alarm.
NSFD Car 1 arrived and reported a working fire with fire through the roof of the structure. NSFD inital units arrived and started extinguishment efforts. Mattydale Rescue 1 and MCFD E-32 arrived together and were tasked with assisting with fire attack while the I/C upgraded the event to a second alarm requesting 2 more engines and a truck company.
Mattydale Rescue 1 (Lt Piccolo) arrived on scene with 7 interior firefighters and went to work pulling a 2 1/2" handline and making entry into the building as the I/C requested another RIT. As initial companies exited for new SCBA bottles, Mattydale crews manned the lines, at one time operating 3 separate lines. Over all the operation went well with multiple departments operating for several hours on scene.
Rounding out the MFD crew were:
P/C Jim Whitehead (driver)
