Mattydale R-1 Responds to Fire In Clay At Wegmans
Wed. Jul 7th 2010

The Mattydale Fire Department was activated to respond to a commercial fire in the Moyers Corners Fire District at Wegmans grocery store on E. Taft Road today at 4:20pm.

Requested as Moyers Corners Fire Department's RIT (Rapid Intervention Team) MFD Rescue Company 1 (Lt Piccolo) responded within a few minutes of dispatch along with MFD Car 2 (Chief Falise).

On arrival, units found an active fire on the roof involving a construction trailer that had spread to the roof itself.  While MCFD units arrived and started operations, R-1 assembled their tools and took position near the back corner of the building where the fire originated.  Car 2 was assigned as the "Roof Division Chief" and managed operations up on the roof, reporting progress to the incident commander.

Rescue 1's crew was quickly tasked with assisting firefighters overcome by the 95+ degree temperatures as several firefighters were in need of medical assistance.  Rescue 1 even found themselves treating their own Car 2 for a short time.

Crews were back in service in about 2 hours.
