Mattydale sends 2 engines to assist with tractor trailer fire on Route 81
Mon. Jun 22nd 2009

The Mattydale Fire Department was requested to respond mutual aid to the Liverpool Fire Department for a well involved tractor trailer carrying compacted cardboard.  This fire proved to be stubborn as the fire became deep-seeded in the bundles of cardboard.

Units on the scene included Liverpool FD, Hinsdale FD, and Mattydale sent 2 engine companies to assist.

Eventually, a front loader was called in to off-load the cardboard so crews could get at it more easily.

(Thanks to NSFD Fire photographer Pete Desalvo for pictures)

crews go to work on knocking down the flames.

Mattydale and Liverpool crews at work extinguishing the fire.

FF Curt Knarr looks on as FF's Bilger and Holcomb work a handline.

Engines 1 & 2 standby to give more water for the operation. Operators J. Whitehead and K Michels stand by.
