Mattydale Fire Department makes quick work of kitchen fire

On February 28th at approxiamately 16:05 hours, Mattydale and Liverpool fire departments were activated for a possible appliance fire at 306 Elbow Road, Pithcer Hill.  Assistant Chief George Dwyer responded within 2 minutes and arrived to find smoke showing from the residence.  The alarm was quickly upgraded to a structure fire and North Syracuse and Moyers Corners (RIT team) were activated.  Quint 3 and Liverpool were in route and arrived within minutes.  After a quick size-up, Asst. Chief Dwyer found a active kitchen fire.  Asst. Chief Dwyer made entry into the residence and quickly put fire out with dry chemical fire extinguisher.  Mattydale and Liverpool crews ventilated the structure and checked for extension.  The Quint 3 crew was Lt. Dolson, F/F Bender, F/F Knarr, F/F Geremski and Engine 2 crew was P/C Kilpatrick, F/F Geremski, F/F Newman and F/F Harden.  All units were finished and cleaned up by 17:30 hours.
