Mattydale battles early morning fire at Pacific Restaurant

The Mattydale Fire Department was activated for a structure fire at 06:57 am on Sunday morning at the Pacific Restaurant at 2822 LeMonye Ave.. 1st Asst. Chief George Dwyer arrived within minutes to find smoke and fire showing from the front of the building and quickly assumed command. 2nd Asst. Chief Tim Zacholl arrived and took operations. Quint 3 arrived and hit the hydrant on Raphael Ave. and set up on side D of the structure. Hydrant man Tom Falise quickly set up the hydrant and had water going to the Quint while vehicle operator John Kuryla set the Quint's aerial . Vehicle officer Bryan Schad, Past Chief Mike Gunther and F/F Carmen Mallaro pulled a handline and entered structure on side D and moved quickly to the front of the structure. East Syracuse truck set up on side A of the building and the Liverpool truck set up on side B and sent a crew to the roof. Moyers Corners was activated as the RIT and arrived and set up quickly. Engine 2 arrived with Capt. Fitch, Past Chief Kilpatrick and F/F Bender and moved in behind the Quint. Capt. Fitch and Past Chief Kilpatrick secured utilities and performed a primary search of the first floor. Rescue 1 arrived with Lt. Piccolo, Lt. Dolson and F/F Bob Whitehead and helped with on going operations. Fire was knocked down in a short time and ventilation and overhaul was taken care of. Damage was extensive to the front of the structure, but quick work by crews helped keep damage to the inside of the structure to a minimum. Crews had all picked up and returned to service by ten o'clock.
