Mattydale Fire Department Responds to a Rollover with Entrapment
Sun. Oct 14th 2012
The Mattydale Fire Department was dispatched at 1:50am this morning to a report of a motor vehicle crash in front of 500 Factory Avenue. Initial reports indicated it was a rollover accident with possible people trapped. Mattydale Cars 1 (Chief Gunther) & 2 (Chief Falise) both went enroute quickly and were followed by Rescue 1 (Captain Zacholl) and Engine 2 (Lt Piccolo). Car 2 arrived first and confirmed reports of a van on its side in a ditch with 1 person trapped inside. Car 1 arrived and assumed incident command and Car 2 became responsible for the operation Chief position. Rescue 1 arrived and quickly stabilized the vehicle utilizing the "rut strut" vehicle stabilization jacks and entered the van through the rear doors. After clearing some debris and the rear seats, the rescue company was able to remove the single occupant from the vehicle and transferred her care to NAVAC Ambulance for transport. Engine 2 assisted at the scene with hazards including deploying a handline and securing the vehicle battery. Units were picked up and in service in about 30 minutes.
