Mattydale Fire Department responds to 2 Alarm Blaze in Brewerton

On Sunday, August 19, at 14:23 hours the Mattydale Fire Department was activated to respond w/ manpower to a 2 alarm apartment fire in Brewerton.  Rescue 1, with Asst. Chief George Dwyer, Capt. Chuck Smith, Lt. Dave Russo, Lt. Nick Piccolo, F/F John Kuryla, F/F Eric Geremski and F/F Bryan Schad responded to Brewerton and reported to the manpower pool.  After splitting into 2 teams, both teams were immediately sent to work.  One team, lead By Asst. Chief Dwyer, went to the third floor to ventilate.  They, later, brought a hand line to the second floor to knock down hidden pockets of fire.  The other team, led by Lt. Russo,  went to the second floor to look for additional hot spots.  The building involved was a three story apartment building in the Bay Shore complex on Chalkstone Course.  The fire started in a first floor apartment and quickly spread to the third floor.  There were initial reports of 2 people trapped, but all occupants made it out safely.  Rescue 1 was back in service by 17:30 hours.
