Mattydale Fire Department handles RIT duties at Cicero fire
Wed. Aug 15th 2012

On July 12, 2012 at 01:02 am the Mattydale Fire Department was activated as the RIT team to Cicero on a reported structure fire.  Rescue 1 responded as the RIT with 8 people on board.  While in route, Cicero Car 4 reported a signal 99 with heavy fire on side B of the structure.  R-1 was third unit to arrive and set up on side D of the structure in a neighbor's driveway.  Command had ordered outside operations by this time.   The RIT team handled a number of duites including: secured utilities; set-up safety zones around live power lines still attached to the structure using cones and scene tape; set-up safety zones on side D around chimney area for possible collapse; set-up safety zone on side B because of unstable structure and heavy fire load; set-up lighting to assist crews on side B.  After fire was knocked down, RIT team assisted with some picking up and then returned to station.  RIT crew consisted of Capt. Chuck Smith, Capt. Tim Zacholl, Lt. Nick Piccolo, F/F James Whitehead, F/F John Kuryla, F/F Brian Schad, F/F Tom Falise and F/F Phil Falise.
