On Saturday, September 29 the Mattydale Fire Department sent its HazMat Decon Trailer and members of their Decon team to Onondaga County's annual fall dive at Lourdes Camp on Skaneateles Lake. The annual dive weekend is a chance for County divers, as well as divers from near-by Counties and even other states to come together for training, demostrations, and diving. The reason for going was to explain to divers how the team sets up to decon and the different ways the divers can be deconned. The team set-up their gross decon and demonstrated how it would be used on divers needing to be deconned after coming out of the water. The team also demonstrated the newly acquired McCaw system, a air powered unit that sprays a chemical or soap mixture on a diver to help decon a diver in certain situations. The decon team will be used by the County dive team to help decon divers on calls the dive team is sent to. Decon team members Asst. Chief Brian Falise, Capt. Tim Zacholl, Liet. David Fitch, F/F Stephanie Hurteau, F/F Curt Knarr, F/F Kevin Newmann and F/F Steve Stolusky participated at Lourdes Camp.
