The Mattydale Fire Department was activated for a reported house fire at 225 Garden City Drive at 05:53 on Friday morning, September 20.  Chief Brian Falise and Asst. Chief Tim Zacholl arrived minutes later to find a 2 story house with heavy fire showing on the first floor in the left front and left side of the structure.  The fire had vented through windows in the front and left side and had extended to the front porch.  It was quickly called a signal 99 w/ Chief Falise assuming command.  The were also reports of people still inside the structure.  Quint 3 arrived minutes later w/ a crew of Capt. Fitch, Lt. Schad and F/Fs Gunther, Geremski, Newman and White.  Lt. Schad and F/F Geremski entered the front of the house w/ a 1-3/4" attack line while Asst. Chiefs Zacholl and Dwyer, along w/ F/Fs Gunther and Newman made entry through a second floor window in the rear of the house to search second floor bedrooms.  The fire suppression team made a aggressive attack on the fire and fire was knocked down in within 5 minutes.  Mattydale E-2 arrived w/ Capt. Smith and F/Fs Bender, Kuryla and Burnett and secured the utilities before moving to assist moving a hose line to the second floor, after fire was out.  Mutual aid companies arrived - Liverpool had the back up line pulled and manned, East Syracuse performed a first floor search, Moyers Corners was the RIT team and Hinsdale assisted with ventilation and lighting.  A quick search of both floors found 2 people inside - 1 was found alive and was removed quickly from the structure and turned over to EMS.  The other person was deceased upon being found and was left in the structure.  The structure, after fire was out and no extension was found, was turned over to fire investigators and Sheriff's Department.  A thorough overhaul was done on both floors.  All units were back in service by 12:10.
